Mills Middle School Black History Month Spotlight: Ms. Samone Vail, 8th grade ELA teacher!
Ms. Vail has been in education since 2019.
Some things she does outside of the classroom is spend time with her son, record in her journal, and read! She also is the CEO of Power2Empower- a faith based transitional program for high school seniors going to college.
Her inspiration for education comes from her 7th grade teacher, Ms. Felton; and her 12th grade teacher Ms. Minnis because they were very passionate with helping scholars in and outside of the classroom.
A famous African American who is an inspiration to her is Dr. Brenda Caldwell because she walks BOLDLY in her God Given Purpose!

Mrs. Chantyana Jackson, math and algebra teacher here at MMS!
Mrs. Jackson has been in education for 4 years. Some things that she does outside of the classroom are arts and crafts; from crocheting to drawing, she loves it all!
Her love for math and helping people learn inspired her to be a part of education. An influential African American who inspires her is her mother because she constantly reminds her to PERSEVERE!

Mills Middle Black History Month Spotlight:
Ms. Courteney Jarmon, science teacher here at MMS!
She has been in education for 3 years!
Someone who has inspired her to be an educator are her parents, who are also a part of education!
Some things she does outside of the classroom are walking, reading, and she is also a notary republic.
An influential African American who inspired her is Harriet Tubman because of her resilience! Tubman was always an inspiration to Ms. Jarmon because she defied the odds as a black woman. Tubman always knew there was something bigger at stake that was worth fighting for; and that inspires Ms. Jarmon to go above and beyond to inspire, encourage, and educate her scholars!

Black History Month Mills Middle Spotlight:
Mr. Kwadjo Boaitey, AVID teacher and AVID Site coordinator here at Mills Middle!
A few insights centered around Mr. Boaitey:
He has been in education for 7 years! Some things that he does outside of the classroom are spending quality time with my family; support my church in various capacities; perform with the Art Porter Singers; swimming laps, hiking, and camping.
Someone who inspired him to be in education was the principal of his daughters elementary school. She asked him to lead the Garden Club with k-5 students. He enjoyed it so much as well as educators began to notice improvement within the scholars who were a part of the gardening club!
An influential African American who inspired him:
I am inspired by all African Americans particularly my parents who became American citizens later in life. They are such winning of examples of the power of love and devotion, of commitment with the belief that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and work hard. They instilled in me a love of and for Africa, and imparted an understanding of my worth as a child God. Their lives are testimonies of grace and power which I reflect on daily.

Ms. Mikayla Greer, 6th grade math teacher here at MMS.
Ms. Greer has been in education for 3 years!
Some things she loves to do outside of the classroom are sleep and eat pizza!
A person who inspired her to be an educator is her high school algebra teacher because she took the time to connect with her which made her and other students look forward to come to class. She knew she wanted to make that type of impact in the classroom.
An influential African American who inspires here is KeKe Palmer because she has great energy and always finds the positivity in every situation.
